Twin Cities PBS (TPT) is one of the most innovative public media organizations in the country. Every day, TPT uses the power of media to advance the arts, spur engagement and learning, help young people succeed and support adults age vitally. TPT is a broad-based public media organization that produces award-winning content on multiple platforms and we’re seeking a full time Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to serve as our principal technology management leader. The CTO directs the strategic design, acquisition, management, and implementation of an enterprise-wide technology infrastructure, is responsible for oversight of TPT’s short and long-term technical and engineering strategy, and providing high-level, forward-thinking vision. Areas of accountability encompasses strategic IT planning and execution, technology systems, broadcast, production, distribution, process and system improvements, internal controls, engineering, IT staff management, software development, vendor management, and assessment.

The CTO recognizes industry trends and advancements, and ensures that TPT maximizes our technological capabilities internally and externally.  The CTO will bring a demonstrated history of success in leading dynamic IT teams in highly complex environments, possesses a hands-on, proactive style that delivers solutions in an efficient manner and instills an inclusive team culture that is innovative and collaborative.  This position is based at TPT’s facilities in St. Paul, Minnesota, report to TPT’s President/CEO, and serves as a member of the President’s Advisory Team.


  • Establish and communicate technology strategies that support TPT’s direction, development and future growth.
  • Oversee all aspects of the company's technology requirements including broadcast operations, infrastructure maintenance, software development, production support, information security and software and hardware purchases.
  • Analyze and report on opportunities and risks for delivering TPT’s services, including identification of competitive services, product and enhancement requirements, opportunities for innovation, and assessment of marketplace obstacles and technical hurdles to the business success.
  • Identify, recruit, hire, mentor and lead a creative and talented professional team for achievement of targets.
  • Maintain safety and security of TPT’s digital assets.
  • Develop technological workflows in collaboration with department heads to ensure efficient, high quality, and cost effective outcomes for broadcast and digital audio, video, and streaming.
  • Serve as a resident futurist in developing technology models that are conceptually sound, financially feasible, and organizationally sustainable.
  • Codify and implement technical policies and procedures for TPT, assuring a safe and efficient environment for the station and its employees.
  • Comply with FCC and other regulatory requirements, as well as NAB, PBS, NPR and CPB membership requirements.
  • Serve as a member of the president’s advisory team, work collaboratively with other managers and advise the CEO on enterprise risk and opportunities related to technology.
  • Develop and monitor Technology budgets, and develop and manage yearly a capital expenditures budget and three-year capital forecast.




  • Minimum 15 years management and strategic experience in the field of technology to support broadcast and information technology systems in a complex environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects, personnel, finances, and resources.
  • Experience in the broadcast industry with familiarity with satellite transmission systems, network operations, and digital transmission technologies.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hardware, software, application, systems and network engineering.
  • Excellent leadership, management and organizational skills.
  • Strong understanding of technologies including cloud computing, asset and customer management systems, master control best practices.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science and/or related technical degree.
  • SBE certifications are preferred.
  • Experience working with a union team.
  • Ability to actively communicate, inspire and motivate all levels of staff.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to think and act strategically and proactively.
  • Strong industry relationships.
  • Strong writing and presentation skills.
